Winding Wood: Classic Cuvee Brut 2016
Winding Wood are a boutique and award-winning vineyard situated on the borders of West Berkshire and Wiltshire producing top-notch English sparkling wine using the traditional champagne method. Their first vintage was in 2015 (3 years in the making) and won a medal in the London Wine Competition coming in the top 10% out of a field of 1,000 wines worldwide.
They are a ‘hands-on’ operation where the 2 partners do all the vineyard work, lovingly nurturing their vines all year. They then have the wine made at Hattingley Valley, near Winchester by Emma Rice, twice UK winemaker of the year. It is said that 80% of the work that goes into making first class wine is done in the vineyard —they say modestly — but without question one has to be on first name terms with ones vines to produce the best results.
Our elegant 2016 sparkling is perfect for all occasions. We have added some pinot meunier (14%) to this vintage which gives it an extra dimension. Pale straw in colour with a stream of fine bubbles, our classic cuvee brut has a well-developed yeasty character on the nose with aromas of green apples and a toastiness on the palate. It has a clean mouth feel and will continue to develop further complexity with bottle age. Varieties: Chardonnay 59%, Pinot Noir 27%, Pinot Meunier 14%
